Curtis Setting

So far in this book we have encountered a number of different settings. Farmer first introduces a setting during the first chapter when she talks about how they were in a room with warm humid walls, tubes that snake around the walls and a dull red light. This is the room where Matteo was born and the other 35 cells died. In the next chapter Farmer introduces a new setting, the little house in the poppy field. This house is described as small and crowded. From there the setting changes to the big house. From how it is described it appears that this house is really big a decorative. In has multiple sections of the house lots of land outside. Lots of people also live in this house. It seems like there is a lot of servants and a few different family’s that all descendants of El Patron. This house is located in a country called Opium that separates Mexico and the United States of America so it is a warm climate. This book also takes place in the future because they have learnt how to clone people, have hovercrafts and program people with chips in their brain.
