Character development-Matteo Alacra
Matteo Alacran or as he is known in the Matt, is first
learned about at the very beginning of the book. You start by hearing that the
only surviving cell out of the 36 implanted in cows to be born. He was created
to be a clone of El Patron a very powerful drug lord. A servant of El Patron
named Celia is raising Matt. He starts the book by living with her in her house
in the poppy fields. He has daily routines in this house such as playing with
his toys and watching television. One day when he notices children walking in
the field he goes to the door to see is happening even though Celia has
previously told him to avoid all people he sees. The children come to see who
he is but he doesn’t talk to them. The next day when they come he smashes
through the window with a pot and jumps out of the window and cuts himself on
the grass. They carry him back and this is when he learns about the big house.
There he starts to receive medical attention then is thrown outside once
everyone realizes he is a clone and no one wants to see him. After all of this
he is thrown into a cell and becomes known as an “Animal” because no one like
clones and thinks they all go crazy. This book appears to centre around matt as
you follow him from his house in the poppy fields to the big house. One he gets to the big house no one seems to
like him at all and he is kept locked up in the cell. Not everyone though
because one night Maria comes to visit Matt. Maria and Matt talk about movies
and share stories. This is the start to a relationship between Matt and Maria,
which continues on later in the story.
